Twistered Tic-tac-toe

Veronika Tzekova, Twistered Tic-tac-toe, 2013

The Twistered Tic-tac-toe is from the series Fused Games.

It CHAlleNGES the players' physical skills (with the Twister part) and strategic thinking (with the tic-tac-toe part).

It was performed for a first time in public space with the team of Grazer Kunstverein in front of the venue itself on 28th of October 2013, using the availabilities and engaging with its immediate surroundings.

Tic-tac-toed Laundry-pegs Set || The prequel to the sequel

Before designing the whole Tic-tac-toed Laundry-pegs Set  I formally used the clothes-pegs to play on fences, stairs, etc. Here how it looked for example at the XO City workshop at the Frida&freD Museum in Graz:

Gamifying daily life >>> Tic-tac-toed Laundry-pegs Set

The Tic-tac-toed Laundry-pegs Set is another of my tools for gamifying routines and simple daily activities (like the Coastered Tic-tac-toe for example).

Simply get somebody to hand you the laundry and play with. Hang your Tic-tac-toed Laundry-pegs Set on the rope.

Use the ropes as the rows in the tic-tac-toe grid and arrange the laundry symmetrically so to it also forms the columns.

When done hanging just play the game placing a peg on each laundry piece, keeping in mind the 3x3 grid of the game. The clothes-pegs are double sided so you, doesn't really need to pay attention which one pick.

Of course you can play without predefining the 3x3 game grid of the tic-tac toe (the irregular tic-tac-toe I mentioned in former posts). In this way you can place a piece of cloth and peg it, the next one places the next piece and puts a peg with his symbol and so on and so on.)

Embroidered game field :: the Bagged Tic-tac-toe

The Bagged Tic-tac-toe is a set of 9 double sided wooden cuboids. Though it utilizes leftover material from other games, the Bagged Tic-tac-toe earned its own special embroidered game field. The hemp bag has embroidered 3x3 game grids on it. The bag serves as both as a container/package and as game field on both sides.

With the Bagged Tic-tac-toe, the simplest strategy game comes in a minimalist and clear design, portable, out of natural materials. Handy, light weight, pleasing to touch – any time you decide to play outdoors, when traveling, in your favorite café or pub, or at home. A game to have fun with your children or friends, and even make new acquaintances through sharing a game experience. Aesthetic and clever present. A few are available at my shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/CHAlleNGEDGAMES

The ball is round so that the game can change direction.

Josef "Sepp" Herberger was a German football player and manager, whom I recently discovered. I can hold myself to share his twisted wisdom and depiction of games.

These are (some) my favorite quotes from him:

"After the game is before the game."
("Nach dem Spiel ist vor dem Spiel.")

"The ball is round so that the game can change direction."

The tic-tac-toe series Gamifying IKEA awarded with 1st place at the Pimp dein IKEA competition

The tic-tac-toe series Gamifying IKEA were awarded with 1st place at the Pimp dein IKEA competition in October 2013. The games were also part of the eponymous exhibition which took place earlier in 2013 at the IKEA Vösendorf, Vienna, Austria.

Most of them were already published at the CHAlleNGED GAMES blog:

ORDNING Tic-tac-toe  // Bookcased Tic-tac-toe // HOL Tic-tac-toe // BRÄDA Tic-tac-toe // LEKMAN Tic-tac-toe // JULES Tic-tac-toe //  KOMPLEMENT Tic-tac-toe

For the perfection of the realization (also mentioned by the jury) I shall hold a great deal responsible and guilty Mr. Richard Edelsbrunner!!!

The Bookcased Tic-tac-toe was produced earlier in 2012 with the kind support of my friend Trayan and Billboard company.

One-row-Tic-tac-toe

One-row-Tic-tac-toe: same rules, same tools, just the geometry of the game field is altered, the three rows of the 3x3 game grid are situated one after each other and become one row.

This CHANGE definitely comes with a CHAlleNGE. Imagine the former game field, just unfolded. It is a bit schizophrenic performance as one simultaneously, virtually places the game in the familiar two dimensional game grid but actually performs in the new, one dimensional game field. Don't be afraid, it is a gift to be able to operate considering more than one system at the time. The past, the familiar stay. If one handles them properly they are only here to help and yet the focus should stay on the new linear constellation. Test  yours and the game resilience by applying the accumulated knowledge and experience in a new set.
